As part of our division strategic plan, IFFS nutrition team identified a need to realign resources to support programming designed to serve parents of young children as well as children receiving summer meals. In order to do that, we applied and received some initial grant funding from Share Our Strength to support Cooking Matters Parents (CMP) programming across NC!
Like other curricula you are using, CMP participants will receive take home groceries, learn about food preparation and safety, learn how to budget, visit the grocery store, participate in nutrition activities and discussions, and of course – graduate! For the week 5 Shopping Smart lesson, coordinators can choose from Cooking Matters for Adults, WIC parents, or the Pop-Up version for a more in-depth shopping experience.
We are excited to share resources and funding opportunities for this project, and hope that you will join us in serving parents of young children across North Carolina!
If you are interested in applying for funding, please complete the google form. Note that the funding is for CMP participants only – $20 per participant. If you have any questions about the project or application process, please contact Jill Brown, MS DTR, Director of Nutrition Education at 828-318-4221 or via email at Jill.Brown@FoodShuttle.org.
